Siege of Troy. Book five: in Sicily the giant Polyphemus puts Ulysses (Odysseus) and his friend Alphenor (Elpenor) in prison. Polyphemus persues Ulysses and Alphenor and takes back his sister, he also attacks Ulysses who puts out his one eye. Lydgate tells us that Ovid writes about Ulysses and Polyphemus in his 'Metamorphoses'. After escaping from Polyphemus Ulysses is driven to an island where the enchantress Circe lives.
