Description:
|
Siege of Troy. Book five: Ulysses (Odysseus) is captured twice and through his guile manages to escape. Eventually he reaches King Idomenus (Idumeus) where he recounts tales of his wanderings. After leaving Troy Ulysses runs into trouble when a storm drives him to Sicily where his ships are plundered by the two kings who live there. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: Ulysses and King Idomenus. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'M' in the text. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
